    GREAT IDEA but-any true medical testing? The 'quick release' hold up in surf? Leash stays on? Does it 'ratchet' closed enough to actually cut off arterial bleeds? You tighten it over the top of leg-arteries run on the INSIDE side of leg (inner thigh, inner arm) and that is where tourniquets are tightened. That part looks plastic--tourniquet needs a LOT of torque to tighten enough to reach deep arteries. Usually there is a metal or heavy plastic long piece that crosses and you torque that and then velcro that in place to stay tight. Will this? HAVE YOU TESTED IT?

    Sounds like a fantastic course... I think the research projects have tons of scope to be pretty interesting... and could deliver some fantastic insight into the application of tactical medicine in new/adjacent domains, like civilian emergency/rescue medic domains such as Surf Life Saving, SES and other community/event first aid services. I think there is a ton of relevance to these other civilian contexts/roles. A great innovation.. well done Aldon! Thanks for the interview Jez/TacMed.

    Seems more sensible that what they tell us in the U.S.: to just call 911 or bring them to the hospital. In rural areas, this could take a while. Where we are, copperhead and eastern diamondback rattlesnakes are pretty prevalent. Their venom is quick acting and can go to the heart very quickly, so I would think that you would want to cut off at least some of the blood flow.

    Ah that seems like it matches up with what you poured because you're doing the experiment and I get that but I'm 6'1 and I come from a very tall long and thin family ranging on average from 5'10" 1/2 to 7 ft (even my grandmother was 6 ft tall born in 1924 haha) so I can palm a basketball if it's a new ball that isn't all full of dirt (after that it is kind of slick and my hands are also slick (from washing my hands at work and at home about a billion times a day for the 40 years that I have been in healthcare)and I have no fingerprints for the most part)but you get the idea and most men that I know my hands are bigger than theirs or at least my fists are ;-) so it's still kind of a guesstimation but that's the closer than I have seen anywhere else so far so thank you

    Hey, these are some informative videos. I'd say though that it's a bad idea to estimate blood loss. There are to many variables. And I feel that with proper assessment, it's not needed. I don't understand the purpose as it's not a standard, it's not uniform. It appears objective. I would think looking at the patients skin color and feeling the temp of their skin is more helpful.

    • @lkchurch8
      @lkchurch8 2 года назад

      Of course, the best way is the quantitative measuring of blood loss by weighing it, but for those out in the field who can't weigh the fluid loss, this is a great quick way to get an estimation of blood loss until it can be weighed.

    • @ianmcdevitt2460
      @ianmcdevitt2460 Год назад

      @@lkchurch8 Hey Linda, how are you? Thing is for FORENSIC purposes, estimating blood loss is certainly needed. For TACTICAL MEDICINE, honestly, it isn't. What matters is accurate patient assessment, application of specific skills during the stages of care. And team and patient safety. Estimating blood loss is a gimmick. 35 years, 10 countries and 80,000 + patients, I have never ever seen this applied.

  • @tonyacampos85

    the way I think high and tight is so effective is because you're tightening the tq over one bone instead of the lower extremities and has more of a chance of stopping blood flow. I also learned if it continues, its okay to add another right under that tq.

    If bitten with no help or phone reception available. Is it better to apply the bandage, sit and wait for your body to deal with the venom while not moving, or attempt to walk out and seek help?

  • @bashkillszombies

    My greatest issue is how to hump these. There's no point in having a plastic case when you then need to put it in it's own bag anyway. Would be better if the casing had a molle strap or even just a slot you could put a zip tie through to hook it somewhere and stow it.

    • @TacmedaustraliaAu
      @TacmedaustraliaAu 2 года назад

      I like your thinking. The case is needed for the Pocket BVM to protect the device from being deformed. To be able to fold so compact, it's made of soft silicone. If it was in a soft MOLLE pouch it risks becoming deformed and might affect the ability to ventilate and/or recoil. A slot is a great idea but would require a new case that has a locking mechanism to prevent it from springing open if it's stored on the outside of a pack. I'll pass it on to the manufacturer! Cheers, Jez.
